What is the difference between sunburned peeling skin and new skin forming because of sunburns?

I got sunburned last Sunday its almost been a week now. I started peeling two days ago, my skin is red because it came off in the shower too soon. But anyways now my skin looks kinda scaly but hasnt really peeled yet. So is this what new skin looks like after sunburns? Or is it going to peel again? Thanks! need to know soon!
