Any procedure which strips the outer dead skin layers of excessive dead skin stimulates the skin into a renewal. Even if you scrub your face hard or in the old days sometimes would use for instance sandpaper or salt and a toothbrush on a tattoo, and they would strip the outer dead skin layers.
